She made a point to connect personally with fans every day, and answer questions, and it has grown so much that she's become the No. 1 Country artist on Myspace, and her music has surpassed over 40 million streams. In 2007, when she won CMT's Breakthrough Video award, she thanked her "Myspace fans," and said she would bring the award on the road with her when she went on tour with Brad Paisley, later that year, which she did. She even let fans pose with the award.

In 2006, she released her debut single “Tim McGraw“, then her self-titled debut album, which was subsequently certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In November 2008, Swift released her second album, Fearless. Fearless and Taylor Swift finished 2008 at number-three and number-six respectively, with sales of 2.1 and 1.5 million. Fearless has topped the Billboard 200 in 11 non-consecutive weeks; no album has spent more time at No. 1 since 2000. Swift was named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine in 2009. Fearless won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2010.

In 2008, her albums sold a combined four million copies, making her the best-selling musician of the year in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Forbes ranked Swift 2009′s 69th-most powerful celebrity with earnings of $18 million. In January 2010 Nielsen SoundScan lists Swift as the top-selling digital artist in music history with over 24.3 million digital tracks sold. To date, she has sold over ten million albums worldwide.

Taylor Swift first signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the youngest person the company had ever signed. Every day after school she would truck off to one of Nashville’s many studios on Music Row for writing appointments.

“I knew every writer I wrote with was pretty much going to think, ‘I’m going to write a song for a 14-year-old today,’ ” Ms. Swift said. “So I would come into each meeting with 5 to 10 ideas that were solid. I wanted them to look at me as a person they were writing with, not a little kid.”

Lady Gaga Sells Magazines. Taylor Swift Does Not.
It's taken some time, but the surefire secret to selling magazines has finally been revealed: Put Lady Gaga on the cover. Women's Wear Daily reports that from Vanity Fair to Rolling Stone to Elle, many publications locked down their best-selling issues of 2010 when Gaga appeared in some form of disrobement on their covers. Cosmopolitan's April issue featuring Gaga sold 1.7 million copies to make it that magazine's best seller, and her Rolling Stone cover sold 245,000 copies, nearly three times RS' average newsstand sales. It seems that oversaturation hasn't dampened people's interest in Gaga. Also faring well on newsstands: Rihanna, thanks in large part to her topless GQ cover.

On the flip side of that, the one way to guarantee poor sales, surprisingly, is to put Taylor Swift on the cover. Why doesn't Swift, one of the top-selling artists in music now, move more magazines? It likely has something to do with the fact that despite countless interviews and front-cover profiles, Swift still hasn't established herself as a headline-making quote machine like Gaga has. Most of her cover stories end up reading like mirror images of each other, with the same anecdotes and oft-repeated revelations that make up most boring promotional puff pieces, and the public has caught on. Also, since this is America, it doesn't help that Swift wears significantly more clothing.

Taylor Swift goes for Dr. Seuss: The singer has signed on as a voice in the animated 3-D spectacle 'The Lorax.' The children's book is famous for being a rhyming quest to save the environment. The star will join Zac Efron, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, and Betty White. The movie will open in 2012.
